Bio
Daniel Parra, born in 1993 in Atlanta, Georgia, is the first generation of his family born in the United States. With his family roots in Ecuador, Parra was very thankful to be able to travel between the United States and Ecuador so he can learn about the country his family comes from. This provided him with a rich understanding of culture, respect and appreciation for people, ecosystems and different animals of the world at an early age. Parra always had a fascination with animals since he was young and would often go to his public library as a kid to check out books about wolves, snakes, tigers and many others of the animal kingdom. When Parra was 22 years old he fulfilled one of his dreams by working with wolves at a wolf sanctuary in Divide, Colorado. This gave him his first introduction to animal conservation and husbandry and a sincere appreciation for all animals and the part they play in our ecosystem.
When Parra was 24 years old, he was living in the rainforest of Guatemala. He picked up some acrylic paints and a wood slab and began painting some of the animals he would see in the wild. Overtime, Parra would continue to draw and paint the animals that inspired him and when he was 26 years old, he entered into an art school located in Riobamba, Ecuador known as the Fundacion Casa Cultural. A place where Parra was surrounded by other artists and had time to explore his imagination through art. As time would go on, Parra would continue to draw the animals and environment that inspired him.
Today at 30 years old, Parra lives in Maui Hawaii to continue his art journey. Parra is best known for his exquisite attention to detail and story telling through the art of ink by using fine liners, brushes and stippling to create his work. Parra believes that he can bring more attention to the animals and plants that are critically endangered in our ecosystems by representing them in his art. Recurring concepts in his works are those that relate to ornithology, marine life, skulls and endemic flowers. All used to create a story between life, death and rebirth.
The Ecuadorian / American artist has participated in solo and group exhibitions in Maui Hawaii and Ecuador and features in national collections of art.
